◉ THE HR SPOTLIGHT

The 3 Wellness Metrics HR Should Track for a Healthier Workforce

Sending out weekly smoothie recipes is cute, but does it really stop burnout? According to recent findings from Eagle Hill, 55% of US workers are currently experiencing burnout, yet most organizations rely on surface-level numbers that miss the bigger picture.

From Wellness Guesswork to Useful Data — Many organizations track participation—such as webinar attendance or step-challenge sign-ups—but stop before asking whether those efforts improve employees’ day-to-day experience. A well-attended yoga session doesn’t automatically mean workloads are manageable.

Instead, build a simple wellness scorecard that tracks three areas:

  • Participation and feedback: Monitor sign-ups, completion percentage, resource use, and employee satisfaction. Low participation may signal an issue in relevance —not motivation.

  • Effects on well-being: Use anonymous pulse surveys to track stress, workload, energy, work-life balance, and whether employees feel supported.

  • Workplace impact: Review trends in absenteeism, presenteeism, turnover, retention, and healthcare or workers’ compensation expenditure.

Start with a baseline, choose a few metrics tied to your goals, and review trends quarterly. Most importantly, combine numbers with employee feedback—the “why” behind the spreadsheet.
