In today’s edition:
SPOTLIGHT
Women are still paid 17 % less than men
Payscale’s 2024 Gender Pay Gap Report found that women earn just 83 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterparts — which has largely remained unchanged for over a decade.
Even though efforts have been made to close the gap, as evidenced by the 73 cents that women were making for every $ 1 made by men in 2015, we still have a long way to go. 🛣️
But it’s time that the gender pay gap finally becomes zero.
So, how can HR close it?
Conduct regular pay audits. Review and analyze salary data to identify and address any gender pay disparities within your organization. This ensures transparency and helps in addressing any unintentional biases.
Promote diversity and inclusion. Foster an inclusive workplace culture that values diversity. Encourage diverse talent to advance within the organization, provide mentorship opportunities, and address unconscious biases that may affect career progression and compensation decisions. 🤔
Implement clear pay policies. Establish and communicate transparent pay policies, emphasizing equal pay for equal work. Clearly define criteria for promotions, raises and bonuses to minimize subjective decision-making that may contribute to gender-based pay gaps.
Promote salary negotiation skills. Provide training programs that empower employees, particularly women, with effective salary negotiation skills. Encourage open conversations about compensation expectations, enabling employees to advocate for fair and competitive salaries. 💬
Regularly review and update job descriptions. Ensure job descriptions accurately reflect the responsibilities and requirements of each role. This helps prevent gender biases from affecting initial salary offers and ensures fair compensation based on skills and qualifications rather than perceived gender-related traits.
